Although the tools and applications of AI (Artificial Intelligence) are rapidly evolving, we wanted to provide some clarification on privacy and a few updates as we begin the 2024/25 academic year.
As of September 2024, there are no generative AI tools that have undergone a Privacy Impact Assessment at TRU, so no personal or personally identifiable information copyrighted, proprietary, TRU Internal Use or Confidential information, or student work should be shared with these systems, and they cannot be required for use in TRU courses. However, with some cautions, there are options for people to begin using some tools and learning how AI works.
Microsoft Copilot is available for free for all TRU faculty, students, and staff. You can log in using your TRU credentials.
ChatGPT (free version) – OpenAI’s free version of ChatGPT is openly available and anyone can access it by clicking the link. You do not need an account to use this version of ChatGPT. You cannot require students to create an account.
DuckDuckGo AI ChatBeta – allows “anonymous access to popular AI models, including GPT-4o mini, Claude 3, and open-source Llama 3.1 and Mixtral.”
Please review the resources on this site for suggested syllabus language, classroom ideas and a critical framework to consider before integrating these or other AI tools into your practice.
